BDC presents "Why the World Needs Biological Design" at SXSW 2016

Biodesign Challenge Program Director Daniel Grushkin led a panel on "Why the world needs biological design" at SXSW on March 12th, 2016. Panelists included Christina Agapakis, Creative Director of Ginkgo BioWorks, Kathy High, Professor of Video and New Media in the Department of Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Romie Littrell, Curator of The Tech Museum of Innovation. 

About the panel: 
Biotechnology is spreading into every aspect of our lives—from our foods, medicines to our everyday products. How might we harness living things to improve the form and function of our made world—our garments, buildings, foods, and infrastructure? Until now, biotechnology has excited the public about greener modes of production, but it has also generated fear. Our speakers will explore how we can use design to envision potential futures, and suss out what's possible, probable, desirable and even potentially catastrophic.
