Lilyverse: Envisioning a Speculative Future for Chhath Rituals in the Yamuna River on Lily Pads

Lilyverse is a speculative design that allows people in Delhi to perform the Chhath Puja ritual on the Yamuna River without exposure to its contaminated waters. The team proposes bioengineering lily pads with greater size and strength so that they may be used as floating platforms for worshippers. At the end of the holiday, the lily pads are processed into fibers for textiles.

Anusha Dhawan is an architect turned visual artist. She is a design facilitator and industry connect at The Design Village, Noida. Her independent practice addresses and is informed by her praxis in visual communication, drawing for generative design thinking, climate responsive, and responsible design. Additional areas of inquiry for Anusha are design pedagogy, urban architecture, space poetics, and ecology.
