To address textiles waste and the release of microfibers into the air and waterways, the team proposes creating a textile recycling process using Pestalotiopsis microspora, a type of plastic eating mushroom.

Elizabeth Wissinger is a Professor of Fashion Studies and Sociology at the City University of New York, in the Master’s program in Liberal Studies at the Graduate Center, and the Department of Social Sciences at BMCC. She has published and spoken widely in the U.S. and internationally on topics pertaining to fashion, technological embodiment, and biodesign.
