Algae is the New Water

In response to the water crisis and widespread droughts, this project proposes using chlamydomonas algae to produce clean water.

Luis Bernardo Guzmán Martínez

Luis Bernardo Guzmán Martínez is a bioartist focused on bioarchitecture and space biology. His work Bioarchitectures CosmoEcology (2020) took place in the International Space Station as part of the Sojourner 2020 from MIT Space Exploration Initiative. Currently he collaborates with the Space and Exploration Laboratory at Universidad de Chile SPEL to develop devices for biological research in Low Earth Orbit. Luis is also an academic working at Universidad de Chile as a researcher and member of the Center of Applied Ethics and Universidad Diego Portales where he teaches a course on Bioarchitecture and Biodesign Challenge. His work has been presented internationally in Ars Electronica, Biodesign Challenge (MoMA), London Design Fair, St Etienne Biennale du Design, and others.

Javier Figueroa

Javier Figueroa is an architect, urban planner, and Director of Fab Lab Atacama. He teaches courses in architecture, urbanism, muralism, and general design skills (including 3D printing, plastic recycling, laser cutting, and prototyping). His research and interests lie in the urban phenomenon, cities, natural ecosystems of the Atacama Desert, and technological educational innovation.
