PermaPak

Kelly Yue Xi, Sara Selmic

PermaPak is a minimally processed biopolymer made from mycelial chitosan and sericin, a protein found in the cocoons of silkworms. It is designed to biodegrade and fit into a regenerative life cycle.

The Ponic Project

The Ponic Project is an open source, hands-on community center that brings learning experiences of aquaponics and vermiculture to the public as an engaging way to advocate for more renewable resources.

Space Farm

To address methane production from cattle farming, team Space Farm created Aligreal—a cattle feed that uses mainly algae instead of hays and corn feed to reduce burps and farts.

Dr. Andrew Scarpelli

Dr. Andrew Scarpelli is a Chicago science and art professor whose training is in microbiology and synthetic biology. He is a 2020 Global Community Biosummit fellow and SciArt Resident in “The Bridge” program. He is cofounder and president of the community biolab ChiTownBio. He is greatly interested in expanding the utility of biotechnology into fields such as art and social justice.
