Biodesign Challenge After-School

For science to serve an entire society, it must be accessible to everyone. There are students all over the United States who lack resources to learn and practice science. Between 13-37 percent of high schools don’t offer physics, chemistry, or biology, according to the Center for Public Education. To that end, BDC After-School is a new initiative that aims to empower voices typically excluded from debates about new technologies and the ethics around them.

Champion Instructors

In 2020, we started working with high school instructors to bring students from underserved communities to the Biodesign Challenge, where they will compete at the annual BDC Summit alongside participants from top universities. BDC After-School trains, funds, and supports Champion Instructors within both high school classrooms and informal settings like after-school programs.
